The biggest Trade Union Federation of Slovakia is the Slovakian Trade Union Federation KOZ SR which has more than 300,000 members. The KOZ SR emerged as the Slovakian successor organisation from CSKOS - the Czech-Slovak Trade Union Federation - which was formed in March 1990 following the “Velvet Revolution” of 1989.
The KOZ SR comprises 28 individual unions of which the most important are the metal working union and the education union. KOZ SR is officially politically independent but has a social democratic focus.

Trade union of workers in education and science of Slovakia (OZ PŠaV) operates in the sector of education and science and represents more than 48,000 members. It is therefore the second largest trade union in Slovakia, acting apolitically and independently. OZ PŠaV is respected social partner to Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports and is a member of Economic and Social Committee. It negotiates collective agreements with employers on local levels and also takes part in negotiations with the government regarding Higher collective agreement for employees in public sector. In addition, OZ PŠaV is represented in international organizations, including European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).
